The mad props project is a project about the California ballot measures that were proposed in 2016. With the information we gathered on each of there propositions, we made podcasts about them. The podcasts were designed to inform the public and not to give a biased opinion on a certain prop.
The process
We were first put into groups and within those groups we separated into smaller groups. The large group was called our Voltron Squad, it was our Prop. The smaller groups focused on the different aspects on the prop. My group was assigned Prop 64. Prop 64 is a proposition to legalize recreation marijuana for people of the age 21+. The marijuana would then be taxed and the tax revenue would go to job training, police enforcement, afterschool programs, and drug treatment. The smaller groups focused on different sides of this prop. Why to be for it, why to be against it, and how it would affect you.
My contributions
My group was how it would affect you. We started by figuring out a question most people wanted to know about prop 64 and how we could answer that question. We came up with the question "Will California turn into a state of potheads after prop 64 is passed?" This question guided us with who we wanted to interview and what we wanted to get out of them. We interviewed people who could potentially answer our question. I set up the interview and interviewed the guy. He is a medical doctor from the San Diego area that meets with patients to decide whether they need a medical card. After the interview, my grouped logged the tape, and with that, I started on the script. I made sure to make the script sound like a conversation. I used all I can from what the doctor told me and then realized i was lacking information. I then set up another interview with a police spokesman from Colorado. During the interview I realized that he was telling me exactly what i needed to finish our script. After my group logged the tape, I went through it and got the parts we needed and finished the script. I then showed it to my group, got critique and refined it several times. Along with the refinements my group and I were making while writing the script. Finally, we had our final draft and recorded. It was a hard finish, but i'm glad that we finished on time and made a good podcast. Our final draft of our podcast is down below.
