SAN DIEGO ZOO |
SAFARI PARK |
At the San Diego Zoo, we were given the task of animal observation. An ethogram is a type of graph that enables us to graph an animals behavior over time. We had to get 2 ethograms, but we also had to draw pictures of the different animals and different habitats along with a short description.
The Zoo was a really fun experience because it was the first field trip we went on as a class. This was a good spot for a good field trip because it really introduced me to animals and aprked an interest in what we were going to be doing for our project. |
At the Safari Park, we were assigned with a scavenger hunt that helped us explore the different kinds of animals the park had to offer. This is what we did for the first half of the day. During the second half of the day, we went behind the scenes of the park, to a learning center to perform an experiment related to elephants. In the classroom, we learned about female elephant maturity and their pregnancy cycles. We also learned about their endagerment and why their tusks are so valuable.
This field trip was a lot of fun because the Safari Park offers a different experience than the Zoo does because of the diversity of animals it carries. It was a great experience that kept my interest growing in anmals. |
SEA WORLDAt Sea World, we had another scavenger hunt. This scavenger hunt allowed us to explore every part of the park. It was a long list, and we were barely able to finish it. This trip helped me explore a little bit more about the behind the scenes of how aquariums work. We had a tour in the morning and got to see the filters and machinery that Sea World had.
This got me really excited because our tanks were tiny compared to Sea World's and I knew that we were going to be able to take care of it. |
BIRCH AQUARIUMAt the Birch Aquarium we did a squid dissection in the morning and then we had a scavenger hunt in the afternoon. We had to draw pictures and research about the fish's habitat and background information.
The Birch Aquarium field trip was really helpful because they ended up becoming one of our main partners and they helped us learn more and more about the upkeep of our fish. |
